HOW IT WORKS
How online courses work on REM Learners, in three steps
Step by step online learning, at your speed
The whole thing is step by step online learning, with you deciding the speed. Start with a goal, shape the lessons to what you already know, then prove what you've learned.
The three steps
Step 1. Choose a direction
Every course starts with a learning goal. There are two ways in:
- Type a skill or topic. Write what you want to learn, like “Google Analytics basics” or “spoken English for interviews”, and the course gets built around it in the background while you carry on. That’s really all it takes to create a course using AI here. On REM Learners a course is called a track.
- Use your résumé. Not sure what to learn? You add your résumé when you set up your account. Choose “Get Suggestions” on the Tracks page and we’ll suggest courses that make sense for your background and goals.
Prefer more structure? Join a track from the REM Learners team, or follow a career path: a set of tracks arranged in order around a bigger goal.
Step 2. Make the learning yours
Your course arrives split into AI generated modules and quizzes. From there, you shape it:
- Choose the section depth. Quick overview, Standard or Deep dive. Skim the parts you already know. Go deep where you need to.
- Work through the concepts one module at a time. Nothing unlocks on a schedule, so this is truly self-paced AI learning. Ten minutes on the bus counts.
- Ask the tutor when something doesn’t click. Choose “Ask about this lesson” and it’ll explain the idea differently, give an example, or answer a follow-up. You can type or speak your question.
- Listen instead of reading. Switch on Read Aloud, or turn a section into a short two-voice podcast.
Step 3. Put your progress to the test
Each module ends with an assessment, and the course closes with a final assessment. Our AI quiz generator writes questions from the exact material you studied, so you're tested on what the course actually covered. These automated assessments online are marked straight away, and the feedback points to what you got right, what you missed, and where to revise. Score 70% to pass a module. If you don't, you get a short recovery module to work through before you try again.
Pass the final assessment and you earn a skill certificate that records what you've achieved.
What a generated course looks like
Here's an example outline for someone who typed “Excel for beginners”:
- Getting around Excel: workbooks, sheets, cells and the ribbon
- Entering and formatting data so it's easy to read
- Formulas you'll use every day: SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, IF
- Sorting, filtering and simple tables
- Charts that make a point
- Final assessment and certificate
Every module has its own assessment, and the tutor and listening tools are available throughout. Your own course will follow your topic and the depth you choose.
Why learning this way works
When you learn with AI step by step, the course meets you where you are. Beginners don't get buried, and people with some background don't sit through what they already know. Because there's an assessment after every module, gaps show up early, while they're still easy to fix. And since there are no batch dates or deadlines, the course fits around college, work or family, not the other way round.
About your skill certificate
- What it records: your name, the course title, your score, the date it was issued and a verification code.
- How you earn it: complete the module assessments, then pass the final assessment. You need 85% on the final, and you have up to three attempts. The final is timed and runs in full screen.
- How you share it: every certificate has its own verification page, so anyone with the link or code can check it. You can print it, find it in your Skills passport, and show it on your REM Interns profile.
The certificate is a record of what you achieved on REM Learners. It is not a university degree or a government-recognised qualification.
Common questions
How long does it take to create a course?
Your course is built in the background, step by step, and you can watch its progress on the Tracks page. You don't have to wait on the page; we'll show you when it's ready.
Can I set the difficulty?
You choose how deep each section goes: Quick overview, Standard or Deep dive. You can switch at any time, and versions you've already opened stay saved.
What is a track?
A track is a course on REM Learners: modules, lessons and assessments around one topic. A career path strings several tracks together toward a bigger goal.
What do the tutor and listening tools do?
The tutor answers questions about the lesson you're on and re-explains concepts. Read Aloud reads lessons to you, and podcast mode turns a section into a short conversation you can listen to hands-free.
Are certificates free?
There's no separate fee for a certificate. Assessments use REM like the other AI features, and passing the final assessment issues your certificate.
Is course content reviewed?
Courses are generated by AI and can sometimes contain errors. Code examples are run automatically before you see them, and any that don't work are fixed or marked as examples. Courses from the REM Learners team are reviewed before they're published. We recommend double-checking anything you'll rely on for work or exams.
Do I have to finish within a time limit?
No. Courses are self-paced and don't expire, so take as long as you need. Only the final assessment itself is timed.
Ready to try it?
Your first course is a few words away.
